EXEED TXL is the first mass-production model under Chery Automobile's premium brand, EXEED, positioned as a mid-size SUV. As the brand's maiden offering, the TXL is built on the high-performance global M3X Mars architecture, featuring class-above cabin space, a plush interior, and top-tier safety as its core selling points. It serves as a pivotal strategic model in Chery Group's upmarket push. First unveiled and launched at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019, it was later renamed "EXEED Lingyun" in April 2025 to sharpen brand identity. Nonetheless, its formative achievements remain a significant milestone in EXEED’s upward trajectory.

Positioned as a mid-size family SUV, the EXEED TXL is the long-wheelbase (LWB) iteration of the TX series, boasting a 2,800 mm wheelbase that delivers superior cabin space over the standard-wheelbase TX. Geared towards mature buyers prioritising quality and family road trips, the TXL highlights generous dimensions, premium kit, and rigorous safety, pitting it directly against homegrown premium rivals such as the Lynk & Co 01 and WEY VV6. The model line-up comprised five variants, priced between RM139,900 and RM175,900. Mechanically, the entire range is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7-speed wet DCT), offered in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, with range-topping trims featuring a BorgWarner intelligent AWD system. In 2021, the EXEED TXL registered an annual sales volume of around 26,000 units; however, the brand's overall market presence remained modest, falling short of its envisioned market stature.
The EXEED TXL embodies the "Intelligence Aesthetic 2.0" design language, featuring sleek, flowing curves that lend the vehicle a stately, confident road presence. Up front, a bold, wide horizontal slatted grille dominates the lower bumper, flanked by vertical LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that accentuate its visual width into a distinctive "wide-mouth" fascia. Above, a full-width LED light bar merges seamlessly with an illuminated "EXEED" badge, which emits a breathing "starry night" lighting effect after dark for a modern, high-tech touch. Along the flanks, a segmented dual shoulder line and chrome window surrounds are complemented by large multi-spoke turbine-style alloy wheels, giving it an imposing yet well-proportioned stance. At the rear, full-width LED taillights and dual exhaust finishers create a cohesive look that echoes the front-end styling.
Inside, the TXL sports a wraparound digital cockpit anchored by a dual 12.3-inch widescreen display setup, delivering a visual ambience on par with established luxury marques. Soft-touch materials are generously applied across high-contact surfaces such as the dashboard and door cards, with the door panels trimmed in diamond-stitched suede for a tactile, upmarket feel. The seats are similarly upholstered in a mix of diamond-quilted leather and suede with contrasting orange dual stitching, delivering a refined aesthetic alongside commendable body support and bolstering.
Under the bonnet, the entire EXEED TXL range is driven by Chery's proprietary third-generation 1.6 TGDI turbocharged engine (SQRF4J16). The unit delivers a maximum output of 145 kW (197 PS) and a peak torque of 290 Nm between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. Boasting a high thermal efficiency of 37.1%, it meets China 6b emissions standards, delivering output figures capable of matching several joint-venture 2.0T units. Power is channelled through a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) engineered by Getrag, which offers superior thermal management and reliability in stop-and-go city traffic compared to dry-clutch counterparts. Running on RON 92 petrol, its WLTC combined fuel consumption stands at 6.9–7.6 L/100 km, with real-world owner averages hovering around 8.3 L/100 km and highway cruising figures dropping as low as 6.8 L/100 km. The TXL reaches a top speed of 185 km/h, while AWD variants employ BorgWarner's Nextrac intelligent on-demand AWD system, capable of switching between 2WD and 4WD in just 0.07 seconds.
Underpinned by the M3X Mars architecture, the TXL's chassis was co-developed and tuned alongside world-renowned chassis specialist Benteler. Suspension is handled by an all-round independent setup—front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link layout—wrapped in Continental UC6 SUV tyres. The overall ride and handling strike a fine balance between comfort and dynamism: the dampers soak up minor road chatter with ease and maintain composed body control over larger ruts without unnecessary rebound. During spirited cornering, body roll is kept in check despite the SUV's higher centre of gravity. High-speed straight-line stability and cornering composure are among the best in the domestic premium segment, delivering a reassuringly planted driving feel.
The EXEED TXL features a 5-door, 5-seater configuration, measuring 4,780 mm long, 1,885 mm wide, and 1,730 mm tall, with a generous 2,800 mm wheelbase. Rear passengers enjoy abundant legroom and a relatively flat centre floor tunnel that preserves foot space for the middle occupant, while multi-angle reclinable rear backrests enhance long-distance touring comfort. Boot space is rated at 470 litres in standard configuration, complemented by a segmented underfloor compartment for added utility.
On the tech front, all variants come standard with twin 12.3-inch screens running the Lion 4.0 Cloud infotainment system on a Baidu OS platform. The suite supports AR navigation, facial and voiceprint recognition, smart voice control, FOTA updates, smart home integration, and Apple CarPlay connectivity, tapping into an ecosystem of over a hundred connected apps. Flagship variants upgrade to a bespoke SONY high-fidelity sound system, further enriching the in-cabin audio experience.
Safety remains a cornerstone of the EXEED TXL. On the passive safety front, the body adopts a high-strength integrated cage construction utilising thermoformed ultra-high-strength steel rated up to 1,500 MPa. High-strength steel accounts for 78% of the structure, allowing the vehicle to withstand up to 10 tonnes of roof crush load. Passive safety kit includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, and front/rear curtain airbags. In the 2020 C-NCAP crash safety assessment, the TXL achieved an exceptional 93.6% overall score, bagging a Five-Star+ safety rating and clinching top spot in the mid-size SUV category.
Active safety is bolstered by a Bosch 9.3 Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), incorporating ABS, EBD, and Traction Control (TCS). In terms of driver assistance, the TXL boasts 22 ADAS features enabling Level 2.5 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. Key functions include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC with Stop & Go), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB with pedestrian detection), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).
As the pioneer for the EXEED marque, the TXL was tasked with laying the groundwork for brand prestige and buyer trust. The 2021 model recorded an annual sales tally of around 26,000 units, positioning it in the middle ranks among homegrown upmarket competitors. However, hampered by brand awareness hurdles and dealership network scale, EXEED struggled to replicate the market buzz enjoyed by peers like Lynk & Co or WEY, with the TXL's monthly volume hovering below four-figure levels. From a user standpoint, owners and motoring journalists praised its generous cabin space, upmarket interior, capable powertrain, and segment-leading safety credentials; nonetheless, lower brand pull, conservative interior cues, and low-speed transmission hesitation somewhat curtailed its broader commercial potential. On the whole, as Chery Group's critical stepping stone towards the premium space, the EXEED TXL offered commendable engineering substance across safety, space, and onboard tech, laying a robust foundation for the brand's subsequent model expansion.
